Any fool can make something complicated. It takes a genius to make it simple." - Woody Guthrie

Just for you ...

Sorry but I just could not resist posting this picture tweeted by Tony Blackburn (Radio 2 DJ) taken whilst watching the Olympics in his union flag Primark onesie.

Need I say more?  Gave me a chuckle.

Super Sunday ...

Heaven is the Sunday newspaper, coffee in bed, car boot sale and a tasty breakfast here

Managed to get this sweet little jug, which meets my green theme criteria,  at way below vintage fair prices.  Given that I have been known to pick up bits and pieces of china for my collection at 10p & 25p I can certainly contain my spending gene when browsing vintage fairs.   My other criteria is that there must be a MADE in ENGLAND stamp on the bottom, unfortunately turning china over to read the stamp tends to make stallholders think you are a dealer.  My final criteria is that I can't spend beyond my budget of £5.  If the budget is spent I don't move on to the next boot fair.   Do any of you boot fair aficionados out there have similar rules that you abide by?

A right royal knees up ...

I graced Royal Tunbridge Wells with my presence today and what a great day out it was.

A really friendly farmers market and be still my beating heart  the Tunbridge Wells Vintage Fair on the Pantiles.

There were flowers and herbs to keep us all fragrant.

A small purchase was made from this stall

My olive oil and calendula soap came beautifully packaged and quite honestly it smells so good I could slice it up and eat it.

At the vintage fair there were linens,  china & glass and crochet blankets

and laced leather footballs, of the type that would split your head open when you executed a header, so bright and shiny that they completely distracted my husband from the burlesque dancer.

Still life ...

There are times when the halo does slip!  Note that I don't count home baked cake in this category.  However I do occasionally take a break from being sanctimonious about organic this and free range that.

Just don't read the list of ingredients.

We may have to have a 'see how many mega marshmallows you can fit in your cheeks' competition later.

I warn you it will get messy.

Weekend ...

Not wishing to sound like a lush but my weekend starts now.

Pretty in pink ...

This cake came from a recipe shared a couple of months back.   It is a firm favourite in my house bringing smiles every time I make it, which is fairly frequently.   Since being added to my repertoire it has raised money for charity and will be the camp cake for guides this year.  Not bad for a little vanilla sponge with pink icing.

The photo might be a little out of focus because just out of shot is a pile of washing, clean mind you.  Thought I would leave that little note as homage to the refreshingly honest blog post 'The Truth' from

Saturday afternoon walk ...

Here are a couple of shots taken whilst walking along the seafront this afternoon.  I kept moaning that I couldn't see my camera screen because of the sun.  That was until I was reminded of the 'old days'.  A time when you would send your film containing 24 potential works of art to a processing lab, such as Truprint.  You would wait a few days and then, only if you were lucky or had some modicum of talent, you would receive back through the post 10 half decent pictures.   It truly was Russian Roulette photography.

The youth of today just don't know they are born.

A glimpse of sunshine ...

Need I say more?

National Pride...

Call me an old cynic but I can be a bit sniffy about Royal Weddings, Diamond Jubilee celebrations, the Olympic hullabaloo etc.

Maybe it is my pretence at sophistication. Yeah right!

I am what you would call a 'late adopter' but once I am on message I am unstoppable.

I had the opportunity to see the Olympic torch procession today, just ambled along as you do. I was particularly struck by the sense of pride displayed by the participants, it was so infectious.

So what with the torch celebrations and the advert for the Paralympic TV coverage, if you haven't seen it yet you will know what I mean when you do, I am hooked.

So come on team GB, the flags are out. Even if they are left over from the Jubilee. See what I mean, I am just an old softy really!

Just good friends...

Now you would have to be of a certain age to appreciate this post.

I just happened to be watching Top of the Pops 2 on BBC4 earlier and who should be on there strutting his stuff, with his shirt open to his navel, but Paul Nicolas closely followed by the Jackson 5.

Ok so I might be exaggerating about the shirt open to the navel but it was the late seventies after all and there was a liberal dose of smooth chest.  I tend not to dwell on the past preferring to live in the here and now but sometimes a quick burst of TOTP2 can bring a smile to your face like no other TV can.

Disaster averted and a gratuitous picture...

Well one week into this blogging lark and I have narrowly managed not to delete all my posts (all three of them).  Sorry to Hoots Cove and Vintage Sheet Addict I deleted your lovely comments but at least I am no longer on Pacific time!

I was going to post about the great foccacia my husband made for supper tonight but the stress has been too much so I will leave you with a picture of our harbour on a sunny day instead.

Did I mention I like cake?

This little chocolate number is made with sunflower oil, so at least I have a good dose of Omega 6 when I indulge.

Another First ...

Never quilted in my life until a couple of weeks ago when I visited a super little workshop here.

Had a wonderful day with a very talented tutor and four lovely ladies and came home with this little beauty.

Small but perfectly formed.

A First...

foray into the blogging world having spent a numbers of years as a follower. I enjoy the odd bit of sewing, knitting and baking. Although don't expect Superwoman more a C+ could do better.

Another passion is rescuing old tat and giving it a new lease of life. Something my husband tolerates! I like nothing better than a good boot fair bargain or a dusty old junk shop to rummage through.

Oh yes and did I mention I love cake.
