Shop Local ...

One of the many by-products of shopping locally, as well as saving money, is finding yourself slipping into a more seasonal vibe revisiting old favourites from your childhood, including cobnuts and greengages.  Apart from in the more upmarket, pricier supermarkets you don't find these delights stocked at all.  If you are lucky enough to find this type of produce they are priced as 'niche', yes that is expensive to you and me.

Another benefit is that you tend to eat healthy meals, which this weekend included my non photogenic marrow stuffed using a recipe found here.

As with all healthy eating a balance must be struck, so in deference to the US Presidential Election these cookies were baked, now renamed by the editor as Republican biscuits.

Of course, purely for the purposes of political neutrality, the Democratic recipe will also need to be tested soon!

Have a great week xxx

  3. The stuffed marrow does look interesting. We have two farm shops fairly close by. A big posh one & the other is, well more scruffy. They both have their merits. Though I do like the posh one at Christmas. Certainly in the winter months the scruffier of the two gets my business for eggs, potatoes & veg. They also do a good line in local organic meat & at a reasonable price.

    1. Lucky you. We also have a few farm shops but would need to take a short car journey to reach them. So unless I am travelling in that direction I don't shop there, preferring to try walking to the shops only. Mind you I am no saint and I am now trying to make up for my poor habits in the past.

  4. That stuffed marrow looks very tempting! I think there are some out there who would argue that the words 'stuffed marrow' and tempting' d not belong in the same sentence, but you have made it so! The cookies looks yummy too - look forward to seeing the Democratic ones!
