Any fool can make something complicated. It takes a genius to make it simple." - Woody Guthrie

Getting ready ...

Last visit of the year to the local farmers market and, an early for us, purchase of a bargain tree.  Now resplendent with 'multi-functional' lights, lets see how long we can put up with those!  I also purchased some tiny holly leave decorations for my Christmas cake and happily purchased one or two items from a new shop in the town, it is nice to be able to use my earnings in the local economy rather than relying on the world wide web.

In preparation for Christmas I have bought one or two books to read to our little visitor and this one caught my eye whilst browsing in the Harbour Bookshop in Whitstable on Friday.  A sweet tale of togetherness, sharing and opening your home to others over Christmas.  I very much recommend it, although haven't yet tried it out on the younger generation.

Now all I have to do is sit on my hands and not spend anymore money so that I can start the new year debt free.

Hope your preparations are also going well xxx

  1. Now that's a good idea, I could do with doing a bit of that too to stop me spending any more money. It's so tempted to get carried away and buy too much.

    1. I have to pace myself and keep control in the last couple of weeks, because once the flood-gates open I am lost.

    1. Yes it is what I would call a snuggle up book.

  4. I like the look of that book, hope it's enjoyed by all.
Lovely to see a stack of wrapped pressies, I've made a start on mine, really need to crack on with that this week.
Tree went up yesterday and the rest if the decs will go up slowly over the next few days, I think there's some paper chains to be made!

  5. Almost done here too. I like to support our local economy too where I can.

  6. I'm loving your wrapping paper, especially the Christmas Puds! Well done for getting your shopping done locally, I'm trying to do that as much as possible too.
    Have a lovely week,

  8. Oh dear. A trip to Whitstable has to include a visit to Harbour books, and now I want to go there too. It's always nicer to shop in a small town rather than in London because it is so contained.

BTW - what are "multifunctional" lights?

  10. Multi-functional lights! We had some of those and I always selected 'ON' but after a while it would always change (without us doing anything) to blinking, fading or some other irritating sequence. I was glad when they stopped working last year and had to be binned!

  11. We have a copy of that book somewhere, it's a goodie. Glad to hear you are keeping the local shops up and running, and getting festive too. We'll be getting our tree at the weekend and I can't wait!

  13. Dear Load of old Tat
I am all for parsimony at this time of the year - in fact all year round. Miser is my middle name and Christmas time is no different - oh the poor children! Keep sitting on those hands and you will be just fine my dear - I have sat on my hands for most of my life and it has served me very well I think. My sisters and I have had a POUND limit on presents for years but we have exchanged the most wonderful things. My eldest sister and I have exchanged the same Christmas card since 1991 and if we budge up the writing it should be good for another decade or too. I do buy a tin of Quality Street - that is my undoing!
    Best wishes
    Jenny
