Saving pennies ...

As an avid follower of frugal blogs, I often find myself not quite coming up to scratch in the money saving stakes.  No spend January came to a juddering halt 3 days in, when I discovered bargain earrings on EBay that could not be overlooked.  So to make myself feel better I thought I should list what I have done to save some pennies.

Changed over gas & electricity supplier to save £200 a year.  Not entirely convinced this will ever manifest itself because it starts well but then they have to adjust my monthly payment!  Does that ever happen to you?  But on the plus side I will get £30 cash back through MSE's Cheap Energy Club.

Tesco is the cheapest petrol locally, I hate to spend even 2p a litre more than I have to.   Apologies to those who do not worship at the mammouth.  My Clubcard points on petrol used to serve us well before an obscure EU ruling meant fewer points.  A free meal with family twice a year through Clubcard boost was always welcome.  So I had taken little notice recently of the vouchers coming in via email,  thinking I would only have a couple of £s.  Imagine my surprise when I found that I had enough to roll up to £50 worth of vouchers for a meal out.

Whilst not exactly money saving we tend to keep eating out to a minimum, unless free or special preferring to eat our own home cooked food.  We are, however, partial to having breakfast out when days off collide, which isn't often.  We find it both cheaper and fun to find different venues (a red double decker bus last week) to try the variety of breakfasts on offer.

On the home front, I also made up a very effective oven cleaner.  Using store cupboard ingredients, comprising dish soap, baking powder, lemon juice and vinegar.  Thankfully it didn't require an oxygen tank and mask to breathe through and I've a very clean oven to show for it.

And finally I made my own taco seasoning for my slow cooker fajitas using herbs and spices already in stock.

There are many more areas of saving to share with you but at the very least I'm pleased with my progress so far and of course my earrings were a bargainšŸ˜Š
